WHO ARE THE GURKHAS ?
Gurkhas are the soldiers of the Nepalese nationality that have been recruited in the Nepalese, Indian and British army force and they are well known for their bravery and the 'khukuri', a Nepalese knife. While they are still recruited in Nepal, India, UK and Singapore, they served in Hong Kong too.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT
This was a 'dream project' and now it is on way to 'dream-come-true' project.
I am a grandson of Gurkha (pictured here is my grandfather) because of whom I am proud to call myself as a Nepalese Hong Konger now. But this is not only the reason why I began this work.
With the help of this project, I aim to collect the stories of Gurkha veterans who served and contributed to Hong Kong in early days and now are living here in Hong Kong at present. However it is more than just the collection of stories.
It is the search for the identity, history as well as to let the veteran elderlies know there is the respect and dignity for them. It is also for their descendants to know about their roots, feel proud, connected more to this land and contribute to this place like their parents did. Furthermore it is also an opportunity for non-Gurkhas in Hong Kong and else where to know about the existence of Nepalese community in Hong Kong and their contribution to Hong Kong.
Using the visual arts, I believe this one of the ways to remember the forgotten Gurkhas who served Hong Kong.
And I want to make sure that these stories will be heard by the people of Hong Kong and beyond.
